As we embark on a new year, and I know we are almost three months into it already...geez give me a break...haha) we can’t help but look back at 2009 and say a tiny prayer for we HAVE made it through! Here are some things we can look back on.
Brad has so much to be proud of this year…not only has he been conquering the 12 hour midnight shifts but he has also managed to become one of Grand Prairie’s finest SWAT/Tactical Officers. Wrestling the 12 hour shifts on top of midnights is a task in itself. We also can’t forget his duties as a Field Training Officer as well. Tucking myself into bed every night knowing that my husband is out there on the streets instead of by my side has really been a habit I am still trying to get used to. Still newlyweds, hearing the news that we would soon have to make a choice was quit difficult,it’s either never have time see each other or spend most of the week nights alone and have time on the weekends. Please keep praying. September Brad was awarded the Officer of the Month for his honorable duties on the streets. November 13th Brad started SWAT Tactical School. Initially it was to be held in Ft. Hood, given the tragedy and other altering reasons G.P had to reconsider and hold the training session locally. It was good for me…it meant my husband wouldn’t be away for a full week, but on the other hand it was upsetting for Brad. He really needed to be able to get away and concentrate on nothing but SWAT. I know this next coming year will be great for Brad. I have lots of faith in his angels watching over him. Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers for his safety every night.
As for me, where do I begin…oh yeah, its not that hard…work, school, sleep. Repeat everyday! I’ve been in school since July of 2008 and the time has come to finally start to counting down the days. I should graduate in March 31st 2010. I’ve been so very blessed to finally do what it is that I love so much that I haven’t completely made up my mind about where I’ll be next. I have so many options after graduation and plenty of opportunities to reflect on. Becoming the Success Team President for Oge Students was a great accomplishment for me this year. On top of work, taking clients at school, keeping up with written school work and studying for my TDLR Written Exam I have still managed to be apart of the evening success team. Success Team members are Ogle School role models. Students who other students can look to for an example of what successful Ogle students are made of. Only 6 members are allowed on the team at one time. Selection of members are based on maintaining a 90% or above attendance, maintaining 85 or above GPA and directors choice. In August I was voted in by my director to step into the President position and help raise money for school activities, graduations, and also help with planning fun contest nights. It has been a blast but very draining as well. December 4th I took the TDLR written exam and passed!! This is just one step closer to what it takes to do what I love so much! I am still working full time at Superior Concrete Products managing projects and contracts. With the economy struggle, even though the name of the game is WORK, we are still glad we have jobs.
Hardships of the economy weren’t always bad this year; we were able to fall in love with our perfect dream home. We purchased our first house this summer and have really enjoyed the spacious living. You realize how much stuff you still need when you move from a tiny apartment to a 3 bedroom two story house. It felt like home since the day we stepped foot in the door and that’s what matters most.
I can honestly say to myself as I look back, with a small pat on the back, "well done...that'll do!". 2010 only holds more opportunities and excitement for the both of us...so Guadalupe River here we come!!
Love -
Liz
